***THIS INFORMATION IS PROVIDED BASED ON OUR PAST EXPERIENCE ARRANGING PRIVATE AIR CHARTER SERVICE FOR BURNING MAN. THIS INFORMATION IS SUBJECT TO ERRORS AND OMISSIONS. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CONFIRM ANY INFORMATION OFFERED HERE WITH OFFICIAL BURNING MAN PUBLICATIONS. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.***
All passengers must have a photo ID and a burning man ticket or a receipt for will call.
Passengers arriving before the event opens will need an early arrivals pass.
All passengers arriving at Black Rock City Airport are subject to a $40 CASH Landing Fee payable directly to the airport upon arrival.
Baggage is limited to the weight and size restrictions of the aircraft as well as FAA regulation. Baggage cannot exceed the size of a commercial airline carryon (22 inches in length, soft sided and/or duffel bags preferred, internal/external framed bags prohibited) and should not weigh more than 25 pounds. The combined weight of each passenger and their baggage should not exceed 210 lbs. The ability to fly a fully seated aircraft will depend upon the weight of the passengers. If the combined weight of all passengers and their baggage exceeds the flight weight limit, we will not fly. It is the responsibility of each individual passenger to abide by the 210 pound weight limit. Passengers and their baggage will be weighed prior to any flight.
*Will I be charged an oversize baggage fee if my baggage is too large?
No, but it will not fly with you. Unlike commercial airliners, we cannot accommodate excess weight due to oversize baggage. If your baggage puts the flight over weight limit or is too large to fit in the airplane, you will not be allowed to bring it.
*How much time should I allow between an airline flight and flights to/from Black Rock City?
At least THREE HOURS. If your airline flight is delayed and you're headed for the playa, you may not make it to the playa by air. If there are any weather or operational delays at Black Rock City, you may be delayed arriving back to your airport of origination.
*How much time should I allow to check in for my flight to/from Black Rock City?
Please allow at least 30 minutes for check in. You and your luggage will be weighed, and after all passengers are present, manifests and weight/balance sheets will be prepared in accordance with FAA and BLM regulations. Passengers heading for the playa will need to produce a Burning Man ticket or receipt for will call as well as photo ID. Passengers traveling before the event opens will need to produce an Early Arrival pass. Be aware that cell phone communication is not reliable at the playa. Therefore, being on time for outbound flights is critical.
*What are the landing fees this year?
All passengers arriving at Black Rock City Airport are subject to a landing fee paid directly to the airport. This fee is used to pay for the costs of building and maintaining the Black Rock City Airport. The 2014 fee is $40 CASH per person.
*How do I get from the Black Rock City Airport into the City/my camp and back?
It's anywhere from 1/2 mile to almost two miles from Black Rock City Airport to where people camp. Mutant vehicles visit the airport many times during daylight hours. They don't operate on a set schedule, so your best bet is to have your camp mates arrange for a mutant vehicle to come get you and your baggage. You can walk, but that's a long way if you have baggage. Coming back from your camp to the airport, make sure you have arranged a reliable way to get back, particularly for early morning flights. Mutant vehicles are much more scarce around dawn.
*Do cell phones work at Burning Man?
Not usually. Don't count on them to work during the event. If you really have to be in touch with the outside world by phone while you are at the event, rent or borrow a satellite phone. There are no phones at the Black Rock City Airport.
*Can I bring an ice chest with me on the flight?
If it's the size of a carry-on that can fit under the seat of an airliner, and it's your only piece of baggage, yes. If not, probably not, depending on the aircraft. The Black Rock City air charter services to and from Reno, NV cannot accommodate large ice chests.
*Will we be flying a scenic tour over BRC as part of the flight?
It depends. Due to high demand for BRC flights, time constraints, and restrictions with flight patterns around BRC, we cannot guarantee that you will have a flight path around BRC. However, assuming time and traffic allow, our pilots have been known to provide additional BRC photo opportunities. The entire flight from Reno to BRC has breathtaking views of Northern Nevada as well as Black Rock City on every approach.
Aircraft available to land at Burning Man are very limited. The vast majority of operators will not take their aircraft into Black Rock City Airport due to the harsh conditions and/or limitations of the runway.
Every year, the aircraft making the Burning Man runs book up nearly completely well prior to the event, so it is important to book this ASAP if you do want the charter.
Additionally, unique to Burning Man, the aircraft flying back and forth are booked solid, which may effect the departure times you schedule if the aircraft gets behind in its routing. This is generally just part of the Burning Man event that must be accepted as a charter passenger.
